A.N. Wilson on believing in God after years of non-belief

Wilson.jpg

This is worth a quick look. A.N. Wilson wrote multiple books from an atheistic point of view on Jesus, CS Lewis and the history of modernity. It is interesting to hear a brief picture of his story.

Fear and Heartbreak

monsma-remoulding.jpg

A friend of mine posted this on her blog. I found it powerful and beautifully written:

"while we were in italy [my husband] and i made some really fun decisions about our family and our future. we prayed that we would hear from the lord and either be confirmed or shown something different. and god in his grace let us hear from him and let us see him. so fun! We came home totally excited and hopeful for what was to come and where he is leading us.

over the last week i sensed an old friend returning to my heart and spirit.

fear.

Peter Rollins - Interview

P Rollins.jpg

This interview is wonderful. The first 2 minutes are important to understand what a clash there is in the interview itself. Obviously two folks coming from different places.

July Reading List

Summer Super Flu takes out 99+% of the population. Just incredible writing skill from King.

Just a great take on Jesus from a historican.

This is the first Gladwell book I've read. Just brilliant. I'm picking up everything else.

Best intro to CS Lewis book there is, and you can get it for 1 cent on Amazon.

Ten Remixed

Pearl Jam

So I don't really get into remastered/remixed albums. U2s Joshua Tree--which I was actually excited to hear--was a dud and still a few clicks quiter than an average cd. It seems the remixing genre, if you can call it that, is just for fans looking to waste another 20 bucks.

The Story of Stuff

This movie is worthy of reflection.

June Reading List

Some repeats, cause I'm slow.

I had a conversation with a friend that made it quite clear to me that I know nothing about hermeneutics. I'm starting with this book and the next, as well as reading Erhman's new book.

See above.

Shane Hipps first book. The criticism are depthy. The opinions are insightful. There are good things to say for Flickering Pixels, but this is a better book for many of us.

Scot McKnight on a Self-Defeating Gospel

Sheep Four Spiritual laws.jpg

I think McKnight used the adjective "deconstucting" among others, but "self-defeating" is how I would characterize his claims. The link below has two outstandng teachings by McKnight which are both worthy of more thought.

Enjoy.

This intervew was outstanding. Hipps material, more than anything I've read recently, is deeply insightful.

Do listen and enjoy.

The American Dream

A friend of mine wrote an article for Neue recently on "The American Dream". Insightful stuff.
