Well worth thinking about.

The Need to Cheer

josh-mcdaniels.jpg

I feel bad for my friends who are Oakland Raiders fans.  They do not get to cheer this year. They just get to hope that a man in a lounge suit somewhere has an unexpected heart attck.

However, after an off season circus, Josh McDaniels, the new Broncos coach, stands victorious. He didn't burn bridges. He built them--to fans, to media, to his players, to the whole NFL Empire--by simply going out and doing his job really, really well.

Rats Can't Vomit

banksy_because_i'm_worthless_rat.jpg

I just got done teaching at a retreat for a few hundred college students. At one point everyone wrote on a note card something they were leaving behind, burying it there in Estes. I read through a couple to make sure the point was made.

The first two simply said, "I'm worthless."

Def. Heresy

Bell - Heresy

1. A convenient theological term (used by people who know their interpretations of ancient texts are infallible) to dismiss and mock those with whom they disagree without having to think.

2. What "orthodoxy" is some times called decades before it is seen as self-evident.

Everything New Book

City of Greeley.jpg

As a heads up, I haven't blogged for a while because I have been completeing my second book, which is tenatively called, "Everything New: Re-imagining Heaven and Hell".

If I were to write a "Mere Chrisianity" this is what it would probably look like. It's written with my students who aren't Christians in mind, and it focuses primarily on the problem of evil, meaning, the new creation, and Jesus as a new kind of God. It should be printed in the Fall 2010.

Mars Hill and the Beatitudes

Mars Hill

Rob Bell and friends are doing a series on the Sermon on the Mount at Mars Hill and (thankfully!) spending 8 weeks on the Beatitudes. The frst sermon was gold, and the rest will be well worth listening to.

And just in case you are curious. I didn't give it that name.

August Reading List

Looking for insights into how to describe and understand the cross and resurrection.

Ditto.

More from Rollins. Its a very enjoyable quick read.

Its short this month. Too much writing of my own to do (which is also why there hasn't been much posting, but that will change in September).
