There’s a nest outside my bedroom window with four blind birds in it. They hatched nearly a week ago and every so often they peak their small heads up hoping that something will come and feed them. I often look out and watch them waiting. Sometimes they squeak and pick at the air. Sometimes they just give up and blend back into the nest of twigs and grass. These small, pink birds can do nothing on their own. They are just now beginning to hold up their heads.
